Rick Gamble

Rick Gamble hails originally from Omaha, Nebraska. He makes his home in Avon, Indiana, where he is the Director of Choirs at Avon High School. He administers and/or conducts 8 choirs, produces and directs a musical, directs a madrigal each year, and helps to coordinate the Avon Vocal Invitational.

Mr. Gamble is in his 25th year of teaching. He has taught at Avon High School for his entire career. Avon is recognized as a NAMM 2015 Best Communities for Music Education District. His choirs have compiled a consistently strong record at state, interstate, and private contests, and have appeared regularly at the Indiana State School Music Association Organizational Finals. This year, he will conduct his choirs in New York City.

Mr. Gamble currently serves as the President of the Indiana Choral Directors Association, the state chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Prior to that, as President-Elect, he planned and coordinated two state conferences. He was the ICDA Women’s Choirs R & S chair, and served as the ICDA Men’s All State Choir Coordinator for seventeen years. He has served on the planning committees of two ADCA Central Division conferences. Mr. Gamble is also an active adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association.

Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Gamble had an active career as an actor in musical theater. He performed professionally in over a dozen states. Mr. Gamble continued to sing oratorio and pops concerts after beginning his teaching career. He has sung with the professional choral chamber ensemble, Mon Choeur, under the direction of Dr. Paul Krasnovsky, and as a studio musician for the Indianapolis-based Aire Born Group under the direction of Max Murphy. He served as the music director for Meridian Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis for a number of years.

Mr. Gamble received his bachelor and master’s degrees in vocal performance from Indiana University, where he studied voice with Walter Cassell, Martha Lipton, and Jean Deis. He was awarded a fellowship from Eli Lilly and Company when he earned his teaching endorsement.

Mr. Gamble and his wife, Kelly, have taught together at Avon Schools for over 25 years. They are the proud parents of three children, Meghan, David, and Alyson.
